These two interventional methods, which are the leading non-surgical slimming methods, are very popular today. The gastric balloon procedure is performed under mild sedation with a medical balloon that is placed in the stomach and is inflated to approximately 450-700 cc and aimed to cover the volume in the stomach. The patient does not feel pain during the procedure. The inside of the balloon is filled with air or liquid mixed with a blue medical dye. The purpose of the blue water used here is to notice the leakage by changing the color of the urine in case of any leakage from the balloon.
Will Stomach Balloon Damage Our Stomach?
This is perhaps the most asked question. Before the gastric balloon is placed, the stomach is carefully examined. In cases of severe gastritis or ulcers, the gastric balloon placement procedure should be postponed after the treatment of the disease. Because it may cause further progress of ulcer or gastritis in the stomach.
After the procedure, the stomach will naturally want to reflexively expel the foreign body in it. There may be nausea and vomiting. Most of the patients do not have any complaints after 3 days at the latest. 2% of the patients cannot tolerate nausea and vomiting after the procedure and want the balloon to be removed. The goal in this process is to reduce the stomach volume and provide early satiety. The diet program given after the procedure must be followed. Supporting the diet program with increasing physical activity will provide a more controlled and regular weight loss.
The balloon placed in the stomach is removed endoscopically with special apparatus under sedation after 6 months so that the patient does not feel pain.
Stomach Botox is done endoscopically as in gastric balloon placement. It can be applied without sedation.
In practice, a toxin that causes a temporary paralysis of the muscles is applied locally to the stomach muscles at the doses required by the physician. The aim is to create temporary paralysis in the stomach muscles, delay gastric emptying and maintain a long-term feeling of satiety. The effect of botox lasts for an average of 4-6 months. The procedure should be supported with diet and physical activities afterwards.
Side effects are very rare.
